KC Field Hockey

Our Mission

We are excited to introduce and develop the great game of field hockey in the Kansas City Area. Our programs are designed to teach beginner players the basic skills of field hockey, to improve player skill development and to teach the advanced player strategies, positional play, and difficult skills and tactics. All programs are SANCTIONED by USA Field Hockey, NFHCA, the USFHA and high school federation rules.

Our Goals

  • Teach you the modern game of field hockey

  • Make you a better hockey player and the best teammate

  • Emphasize great decision-making on the field

  • Keep it fun and enjoyable on and off the field

Our History

It is our privilege to be an extension of the well established Gateway Field Hockey founded in St. Louis, Missouri by Kelly Yates. This program has been recognized nationally for 37 years, and is currently run by Kelly Yates and Kate Graft, the mother and sister of Meghan Larkin (co-founder of KC Field Hockey). With this relationship, there is an opportunity in the field hockey world to utilize their connections and programs, to help grow the game of field hockey in Kansas City.

There have been many Kansas City players who have played for Gateway teams throughout the last 30 years at national tournaments. The number of athletes interested seems to keep growing so we have decided to do an extension off Gateway St. Louis, called KC Field Hockey. We are recognized and sanctioned by USA field hockey.

Athletes involved in KC Field Hockey will have the opportunity to participate with Gateway St. Louis club teams while living in Kansas City. Thank you, Gateway St. Louis. These tournaments come at an additional cost to cover tournament and coaching fees.
